A note from our Founder:
Welcome, I am so grateful you made it here!
Thank you so much for your interest in our offering. This vision was birthed from the alchemy of standing up against multiple experiences of workplace violence, racism, and transphobia I lived thru and witnessed happen to those I care about during 2021-2022 while working in the non-profit industrial complex. If I am truly honest, I was experiencing and witnessing this violence consistently for over 20 years working under philanthrocapitalism. I have heard so many stories like mine and I know I am far from alone. I was determined to transform my experience and create a space in which Black Indigenous and People of the Global Majority (BIPOGM) could gather, speak freely, share resources, and heal together- in the absence of the white gaze.
I am blessed and eternally grateful to have the presence and support in bringing this vision to life from my sisters Tossie, Maria, and Mayo in creating this offering to share with you. We are all looking forward to curating and growing this offering with you into the future.

Event Description
Join the Seaworthy team for an online gathering curated for QT+BIPOGM movement workers to address a deficit in community healing spaces for change makers to build professional peer networks, openly discuss their experiences, affirm and uplift each other. We’ll share rituals, strategies, and community healing practices to address the harms of the Nonprofit Industrial Complex (NPIC) and philanthrocapitalism.
The NPIC is a system of relationships between governments, the owning class, academia, foundations, and non-profit organizations. Despite 2020's high-profile commitments to racial justice and equity, less than 20% of non-profit staff and executive roles are filled by people of color, falling to below 10% in foundations. This gap, coupled with performative racial equity commitments, absence of diverse leadership, and lack of accountability creates toxic work environments for marginalized groups, preserves the status quo, and undermines revolutionary potential.
Driven primarily by funders' agendas, non-profit organizations (knowingly or unkowingly) often perpetuate harm while promoting false solutions that uphold the power of the ruling class and systems rooted in white supremacist colonial capitalism. This, in turn, exacerbates the climate crisis and the environmental and social injustices these organizations claim to be addressing and providing solutions for.
We understand the nuance that lies in the fact that the NPIC influences all institutions, organizations, and communities while recognizing that the work done by movement workers inside of these institutions is not solely dictated by the NPIC.
Seaworthy reflects and amplifies Incite!'s perspective:
"In non-profits, life-saving resources are redistributed, leadership skills are shared and developed, and people build radical consciousness and community. Universities similarly offer vital places for the development of ideas, selves, and communities. Alongside drudgery and conflict, real joy and love live within these complexes, both in spite of and because of their institutional contexts."
Through this gathering we aim to simultaneously uplift this joy and love without erasing or minimizing the drudgery and conflict movement workers experience. We hope you will join us!
Who is this for?
Queer + Transgender affirming space for BIPOGM ONLY.
This space is for individuals regardless of current or past affiliation with an institution or organization. We highly encourage movement workers operating outside of the NPIC to attend.
Movement workers across sectors surviving colonial capitalism and seeking spaces to ideate existence beyond the NPIC and co-curate healing rituals, strategies, and practices
Those with a praxis rooted in collective healing and liberation
Strong familiarity with and active practices rooted in intersectional frameworks and critical thinking
Who this is NOT for:
This event is specifically curated for BIPOGM ONLY. If you are an aspiring white accomplice, are working to be in solidarity with BIPOGM, and are interested in attending a subsequent event inclusive of white accomplices please fill out this interest form. If you would like to contribute funds towards scholarships for BIPOGM please contact us here.
This event is not for those who need a primer or workshop on what the NPIC is, the basics of institutional and systemic oppression, colonialism, racism, classism, homophobia and transphobia. There are plenty of resources available for those who need a 101 course on these topics. Start Here.
This event is not for those who refuse to be critically conscious and radically accountable for ways they have also embodied anti-Blackness and white supremacy in NPIC spaces.
This event is not for those who are disrespectful in community spaces nor willing to uphold and embody community-curated values and practices towards collective healing and liberation.
Attendee Application Process
Step 1. Apply to Attend
Applications will be open from Nov. 17- Dec. 1, 2023. We are utilizing an application process in order to curate an event that strives to be inclusive of and meaningful to those in attendance and that is affirming and uplifting to Queer Transgender and BIPOGM. We want to mitigate as best we can for any organizational power dynamics that might arise in the space and among attendees. We feel that the way for us to best try to hold this as facilitators was to have an application process rather than an open registration ticketed event. The application process is not meant to be exclusive of those who desire to attend, but to create an experience that best serves the people in attendance. We will review applications on a rolling basis and notify attendees of status on or before Dec. 5th at which time we will send a link to a short survey and instructions on payment and registration. We have limited scholarships available and we will work to accommodate the financial needs of applicants to the best of our abilities. Please indicate your scholarship needs in the application.
Step 2. Registration + Payment
We will notify of your application acceptance via email and include registration and payment instructions. The pricing for this offering is based on a sliding scale model which takes into account your or your organization’s budget. All profits from this event are split equally between the facilitators and your generosity honors their gifts, their time, and their hard earned wisdom.
Sliding Scale Based on Organizational Budget*
$100- Organizational Budget $250,000 or below
$200 - Organizational Budget $250,000 - $500,000
$300 - Organizational Budget $500,000 and above
*Note: If you are applying as an individual please choose an amount on the sliding scale
that you feel adequately honors our facilitators and fits within your budget.
We truly believe that organizations in the NPIC need to be paying for the healing of QT+BIPOGM from harm they have endured under philanthrocapitalism, and for this reason we highly encourage you, if possible, to seek professional development funds from your employer to cover the cost of attendance if you are working inside of an organization or institution .
Scholarships
We have limited scholarships available and we will work to accommodate the financial needs of applicants to the best of our abilities.
Please indicate your scholarship needs in your application.
Endless gratitude to you for reading this far and we hope to share virtual space, and maybe one day in person space, with you very soon. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to our team using this contact form.
